From Ground to Blade – Body Mechanics, Centering, and Presence in Historical Dance and Fencing
This seminar focuses on the interplay of body mechanics, focus and centering, and historical movement practice. Core principles of body awareness are conveyed, with special attention to the relationship between posture, footwork, and internal alignment.
Historical dance serves not only as an aesthetic foundation but also as a way to make rhythm within the body tangible – a living connection between timing, flow, and clarity of movement. The body’s center is experienced as both the motor and energetic source that carries, leads, and gathers movement.
Centering, presence, and focused attention form the bridges between dance and fencing. Physical alignment is continually explored in relation to space, intention, and motion – in both choreographic and combative forms.
